How African Youth Stay Rooted While Living Abroad

May 15 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Living abroad changes a lot about how young Africans see themselves, but one thing that often remains strong is the connection to identity, culture, and where they come from.

In this conversation ahead of BBECO Berlin 2026, we talk about what it really looks like for African youth to stay rooted while building a life in another country. From adapting to new environments to holding on to traditions, values, and community, it’s a mix of experiences that many people in the diaspora can relate to.

Joining the conversation are:

1. Stephen Bwete — Chairperson, Ugandans in Berlin

2. Anisha Neumann — Youth Panelist, Berlin

3. Michael Onwuatuegwu — OJIRA Soft | Opportunity Pulse

4. Florence N. Nassuna — Youth Representative, Berlin

5. Frank K. Mperwe — Lead Coordinator, BBECO Berlin 2026

We also touch on the challenges of belonging, finding your voice in a new society, and what it means to represent your background wherever you are.
